   On Reaching the Top of the World

   At exactly 2am, my brother and I went on a roadtrip with our cousins. I didn’t want to go because I wasn’t in the mood to move. But, I didn’t want to let them down because they were expecting me to be there.

   We arrived at about 6am in the morning. There was no signal on our cellphones, I noticed, as I constantly looked at it and waited for ‘good morning’ texts that I always receive from you. Nothing. It broke my heart a little bit.

   We rode a 4x4 SUV and tackled the bumpiest ride I have ever been to. We saw a place that was most likely to be a replica of the Grand Canyon here in the Philippines. It was beautiful, but deep inside, I wished that you were there to see it as well. I know you’d love to see it.

   You always loved to travel, seeing the most beautiful places here in our country. I love the way you smile whenever I take you to beautiful places. I saw the way you appreciate nature when I see how well you took those pictures.

   We trekked for 3 hours non-stop. Passing an unbelievably rocky terrain, passing by numerous strands of rivers and rocks as big as man. My legs weren’t as strong as they used to be. Especially the time when we were the ones who were climbing the mountain together. But I endured the physical pain, just maybe it could surpass the emotional pain I am suffering right now. I must admit, it didn’t work. Every step I took made me miss you even more.

   When we arrived the peak of the mountain, I saw one of the greatest wonders of the Philippines. The tragic of 1991 when Mt. Pinatubo erupted created this magnificent piece of landscape here on earth. I looked at it, but it wasn’t the same. It didn’t feel like I reached the top of the world just like it did before.

   I tried my best to be happy today, but it didn’t feel the same as the way I felt whenever you’re around. I just got home, and went straight to my parents room. I wanted to hug them tight, just so it would lessen the pain I feel inside. But, sad to say, they weren’t home. Here I am, sitting in my bed. My body aches from trekking. Tired, sunburned. But nothing compares to missing you.

   I miss you, and it hurts a lot. I want to be with you. I want to kiss you, hug you tight.. I want to call you, but I know I’d just stutter and get stunned just by listening to your voice.. If you’re reading this.. I just want you to know, I miss you a lot. A LOT.
